Red ants demolish illegal structures in Alexandra

Chaos has erupted in Alexandra township after the Red Ants demolished illegal structures in stjwetla informal settlement.

The red ants have rolled out in the township around 9h00 on Friday morning. However, their heavy-handed approach may have gone too far as some of the residents reported that a five-month-old child is trapped in the rubble of one of the demolished structures. We have however not been able to confirm the news from an official source.

Residents have been accused of occupying Johannesburg’s Marlboro Gardens area illegally .But, the residents are accusing the local government of treating them unfairly.

The community alleges that the red ants came unannounced and started demolishing their houses.

One resident claimed that her two-bedroom house, where she was staying with her kids was also destroyed. There are also unconfirmed reports that a child died during the demolishing of structures.
