Suspects in custody for possession of hijacked vehicle and unlicensed firearm

Police arrested three suspects between the ages of 33 and 39 for being in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle, an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at Fordsburgyesterday, 29 October 2019, at 20:00.

“Police received a tip-off about a suspicious Silver Grey Kia Cerato with three occupants inside. The officersrushed to that particular street and ordered the occupants to come out of the car. Upon exiting the vehicle they were searched. The officers recovered a firearm with no serial number and live rounds from one of the suspects.

“The officers then ran through the system to determine whether the vehicle, driven by the suspects, had been hijacked or not and the report came back positive”, said Captain Xoli Mbele. The vehicle had been reportedhijacked at Jeppe Police Station in November 2017.

The investigation is under way and the suspects will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrate Court.

Johannesburg District Commander Major General Masha commended the good working relationship between the community and the police. He encourages the community to continue giving information relating to crimes happening in their surroundings and they will see positive results
