The Hangman travels back to 1976 when Mfundisi and his son Khetha realised Mfundisi’s wife, Sizekele is late from work. Mfundisi went out to look for his wife and found her beaten up to a pulp, and noticed a dead White police officer lying on the floor and Sizekele with a gun on her hand. Mfundisi took the blame for his wife as Sizekele had shot a White police officer to death. Khetha grew up not knowing what happened to his father, after several years he was a prison warder at Pretoria’s Maximum Prison, not knowing his father was kept in the same prison. Mfundisi got transferred to the death row facility and Khetha learned that Mfundisi is his father but he chose to hide his identity from him and began to campaign against him.
