Tshwane Municipality urges resident to save water

The City of Tshwane appealed to residents as well as businesses to conserve water as Rand Water instituted water restrictions yet again.

Rand Water recently announced that due to low water levels at their reservoirs, 20% of water restrictions will be implemented in order to stabilise their reservoir levels that are critically low at this stage.

City of Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashego said restrictions are applicable throughout the City and will ensure the provision of water supply to all residents. “The City urges consumers to utilise water in a far more effective and efficient way. Residents should make water conservation measures that were implemented during the initial restrictions a lifestyle norm,” said Mashego.

Here are the tips the metro had on how to save water:

  • Use grey water for watering gardens and flushing toilets.
  • Report water leaks and burst pipes.
  • Install water-saving devices.
  • Where possible, install a low-flow showerhead and tap aerators.
  • Use a dual-flush cistern.
  • Plant indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in the garden.
  • Water gardens before 06:00 or after 18:00 and only when necessary.
  • Use a broom instead of a hosepipe to clean driveways or patios.
  • Collect rain water to reuse in the garden or for washing cars.
  • Cover the swimming pool to reduce evaporation.
  • Take a quick shower rather than a bath.
  • Close a running tap while brushing teeth or shaving.
  • Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.
