Vavi to address the Transpharm Pharmaceutical workers

Workers of the Transpharm Pharmaceutical wholesale are on their 7th day protest for a better pay and aredemanding the company to increase their salaries to R12 500. No negotiations have taken place between the employees and Transpharm Pharmaceutical since the protest on Friday. The  workers were supported by the South African Federation of Trade Unions general secretary, Zwelinzima Vavi, on the day.

Gauteng News can confirm that Vavi will be in Pretoria today, Tuesday, to engage and assist the workers who are demanding a better pay. “Last week we were protesting peacefully but the company had to call on the police to supervise the situation. Instead of the police protecting us they ended up attacking us. One of our people got shot in the face and the rubber bullet nearly damaged his eye”, said chairperson of the Pretoria Breath Rustenburg branch Jan Magolego.

The company proposed an offer between 6 and 8 percent but the union rejected this offer and asked the company to give them R12 500 for a three-year deal with a minimum wage of R8000 per month. No commitment from the company has been forthcomingand workers did not cause any damage to property.

The strike is still ongoing and Gauteng news will coverthe story as it unfolds.
