Women robbed of cellphones and money

A 45-year-old male suspect was arrested by police for armed robbery after being apprehended by community patrollers on Tuesday at corner Elloff and De Villiers streets.

Five suspects are alleged to have robbed 2 female victims aged 36 and 42 in the Johannesburg CBD after being dropped off at Park Station by a bus that was travelling from Zimbabwe.

“Two of the suspects threatened the victims with knives before taking their cellphones and R800 in cash.

“Community patrollers within the area were able to come to the victims’ rescue and managed to apprehend one suspect”, explains SAPS Captain Xoli Mbele.

A knife was found on the suspect believed to have been used in the commission of the crime as well as R200.
