A 46- year-old male, Muzikayise Mogole, and Malawian national Patrick Bernard (19) were found guilty of armed robbery on Monday 25 November at the Johannesburg Magistrate Court. Both suspects were also declared unfit to be in possession of firearms.
Muzikayise Mogole was sentenced to 23 years in prison while his accomplice Patrick Bernard was sentenced to 22 years imprisonment.
“On the 05th of May 2019 at 14:00 four suspects robbed a 38-year-old male Doctor and his girlfriend on corner Albertina Sisulu and Von Weilligh Streets. The victims were stationary, in their car, at a red robot when they were confronted by the suspects. The suspects broke the side passenger window of their white Fortuner and pointed a firearm at them.
“They took two cell phones to the value of R27 000 and the victims rushed to the police station and came back with the police. Two suspects were then apprehendedwhen they tried robbing the victims for the second time. They left their firearm which was a toy–gun”, explained Captain Xoli Mbele.
Constable Magoshane Dolamof, Johannesburg Central Detective, was commended for his investigation. This harsh sentence was imposed in the hope of scaring would-be offenders.
