According to Power FM interviewee Nthabeleng Likotsi twitter post, criminals made their way inside the station building yesterday evening, at Houghton Estate in Johannesburg.
“Armed men entered the building and robbed Power FM employees of their cell phones. They also ordered them to hand-over their panic buttons. Fortunately no one got hurt during an incident. South African Police Services (SAPS) had to escort me on my way back home”, post read.
Gauteng SAPS Major General Max Masha said they chose to accompany Likotsi as she would still have been traumatised by an incident.
Twitter users were shocked by this incident and many were surprised by how criminals got inside to such a big station.
“Is that building safe for employees and quests? Where were security guards? Important people are invited at a radio station to share their stories and achievements with communities. Safety of people should be prioritised. Likotsi is a wealthy businesswoman who was sharing information about a launch of her own bank. It is strange that this incident happened whilesecurity at Power FM is always tight and entrance access requires finger-print. It is best for the station to secure their premises for safety of staff as well as quests”, twitter user said.
Kwena Moabelo, a presenter at the station said he was happy that everyone is safe.
