As part of growing Gauteng 2030 plan, Protea Agri Park (Pty) Ltd in partnership with Afribiz are to develop West Rand Mega Park worth R20 billion, at Protea Glen in Soweto.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura said different stakeholders will work together in order to make the project a success. He said the project will take five years to complete.
“Gauteng Infrastructure Funding Agency, West Rand Development Agency and local authorities will take part on the development of West Rand Mega Park”, he said.
Makhura said West Rand Mega Park will have an Industrial Park consisting of a food city centre with different food markets and ancillary services. He said the development will create 7 500 temporary jobs and 50 000 permanent jobs.
“The West Rand Mega Park will have fish, seafood products, meat market, dry goods, flower market, kids recreational area, hotel with conference facilities, training centre, restaurants, fast food outlets and wedding retail centre. There will also be the availability of solar farm, truck stop, container depot, diesel depot and logistic hub”, he added.
He said it will be a main economic centre for Lenasia, Randfontein as well as Soweto townships.
“Many businesses will benefit in a form of supply chain. West Rand Mega Park is nominated as Special Economic Zone. This puts it at a chance of attracting international investments”, said Makhura.
